Summer’s finally over and theatre season is back in the city’s hub of art and culture. If you’ve yet to explore Alserkal Avenue, then it’s time to take a trip to The Junction. Opening the 2017-18 season at Dubai’s newest and largest performing arts space, Director Chandni Varma brings the 1950’s classic 12 Angry Men to the stage. Back in Dubai by popular demand, here’s why you should check it out…
12 Angry Men
It’s time to experience the dynamism of storytelling. The entire production of 12 Angry Men takes place with just one set – a jury room. A teenage boy stands on trial for the alleged murder of his father. His fate lies in the hands of 12 men in a jury room – compelled to provide the judge with a unanimous verdict. If found guilty, the boy will be sentenced to death, as mandatory by law. If, however, the jury feels that they have ‘reasonable doubt’ to declare the boy’s innocence, they are faced with the question, “Are we letting a killer loose?”.
This is the plot of a theatrical classic, first written in 1954 by Reginald Rose and popularised by a Hollywood film of the same name, released in 1957 starring Henry Fonda.
