7 UAE Road Trips From Dubai: One For Each Emirate
The weekend is just around the corner, which means… it’s time for a road trip! Luckily for us, there are 7 emirates in the UAE to visit, all just a short (ish) drive away. From hanging out with cheetahs at Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, to riding on the epic Jebel Jais zipline in Ras Al Khaimah, here are 7 UAE road trips from Dubai…
1. Fujairah: Diving at Snoopy Island
Famous for its abundant marine life, Fujairah is one of the best emirates in the UAE for diving! From gigantic sea turtles to stunning whale sharks, you won’t want to go back up! Don’t have a diving license? No worries, you’ll still be able to see lots of marine life while snorkeling too!
Travel time: About 2 hours 15 mins
Other things to do in Fujairah: Explore the Hajar mountains, visit the Al Badiyah mosque (oldest in the UAE!), Ain Al-Madhab hot springs.
2. Ras Al Khaimah: Riding the Jebel Jais zipline
We were pretty thrilled when the Via Ferrata zipline launched a few years ago, so you can imagine our excitement now that there’s a longer, faster and higher Jebel Jais zipline! Jebel Jais Flight, the world’s longest zipline, is at a staggering 1,680 metres above sea level and can reach speeds of up to 120km per hour! Are you brave enough to try it out?
Travel time: About 2 hours 30 mins
Other things to do in Ras Al Khaimah: Visit the Al Qassimi Palace (which is apparently haunted!), explore the Hajar mountains, check out the historical Dhayah Fort.
3. Sharjah: Visiting the Al Majaz Waterfront
If you’re not looking to travel too far, a road trip to Sharjah would make a great family day out! While you’re there, the Al Majaz waterfront area is definitely one to check out. From water karts to mini golf, there’s loads to do. Don’t miss the musical Sharjah Fountain show during the evenings, with incredible light and laser tricks!
Travel time: About 45 mins
Other things to do in Al Ain: Explore Al Qasba (where you’ll find the Eye of the Emirates ferris wheel), visit the Sharjah Corniche, shop at the Blue Souk.
4. Abu Dhabi: Enjoy a Wildlife Safari at Sir Bani Yas Island
Fancy hanging out with UAE’s wildlife? Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi is home to over 10,000 animals that roam freely. Hop on to a 4×4 safari tour to meet gazelles, Arabian Oryx, giraffes and cheetahs! While you’re driving there, don’t forget to check out the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s new highway gallery, and tune in to brush up on your art history knowledge!
Travel time: About 3 hours 20 mins
Other things to do in Abu Dhabi: Visit the Grand Mosque, explore the Louvre Abu Dhabi (and Saadiyat Art District), check in to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi (and ride on the world’s fastest roller coaster!).
5. Ajman: Explore the Masfout Mountains and Castle
Did you know Ajman is the smallest emirate, measuring only 260 square kilometres? That’s just over 6% of Dubai! But as small as it is, Ajman is still home to some pretty cool attractions! One of them being Masfout – surrounded by the Hajar mountains, this is a great place to beat the heat and go hiking. Don’t forget to visit the Masfout Castle perched at the top of the mountain!
Travel time: About 1 hour 45 mins
Other things to do in Ajman: Explore the Ajman museum, visit the Dhow yard, chill at the beaches (they’ve got some of the cleanest and most peaceful beaches in the UAE!)
6. Umm Al Quwain: Visit the Abandoned Plane
Because there’s more to Umm Al Quwain than just Barracuda! For example, did you know that there’s an abandoned plane on the side of the highway? Well, it’s now being used as a billboard for Palma Beach Hotel Rumour is that the abandoned Ilyushin IL-76 airplane was a Soviet military transport plane, which was linked to notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout…
Travel time: About 1 hour 15 mins
Other things to do in Umm Al Quwain: Check out Al Sinniya Island, go on water rides at Dreamland Aquapark, visit the Umm Al Quwain fort (which is now a muesum)
7. Dubai: See Old & New Dubai at the Dubai Frame
From riding on an abra in Deira to touring the man-made Palm Jumeirah, there are so many great things to do in Dubai. But if we had to pick one, we suggest visiting the Dubai Frame. Not only will you get to see Old Dubai and New Dubai, but you’ll also get a glimpse of what Dubai has planned for the future!
