Avengers: Infinity War assembles the ultimate Marvel dream team
Avengers: Infinity War is going to be the biggest, baddest crossover event in Marvel movie history. The ambitious culmination of 18 different films from the last 10 years, this is the chance to see all your favorite heroes cross paths. We’re talking Iron Man, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange. It’s pretty much the definition of superhero squad goals.
The Avengers and their allies are set for an epic showdown with Thanos, arguably the most powerful super-villain we’ve ever come across. So what do we know about this purple-colored dude who is hell-bent on destroying half the universe?
What we know (so far) about Thanos
From the limited interaction we’ve had with Thanos in previous Marvel films, it’s safe to say he’s no ordinary world-destroying villain. We last saw him in the post-credits scene in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. He likes to blow up planets. He’s a funky shade of purple. And he realllllly wants to get his hands on the all-powerful Infinity Stones. Thanos has his sights set on Earth and fans are being asked to prep for the “deadliest showdown of all time” — a hint that tells us not everyone is making it out of this film alive.
What’s up with the Infinity Stones?
In previous Marvel flicks, we’ve witnessed only small teasers surrounding the mysterious Infinity Stones, but we do know that they’re going to play a hugely important role in Infinity War. After all, it’s what Thanos requires in order to wipe out half the universe — and the power they possess is enough to assemble a squad of heroes unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
We know that there are six Infinity Stones that hold immense power: the Mind Stone, Reality Stone, Power Stone, Space Stone, Time Stone and Soul Stone. Each wields its own power, but whoever collects all six stones together will essentially be unstoppable. From the ability to alter reality to freezing time, reading minds, and traveling through the galaxies, they’re the perfect recipe for omnipotence (whether for good or evil.)
