From snacking on popcorn to watching our favorite stars on the big screen, enjoying movie night is something we take for granted. But we shouldn’t forget that for many labourers in Dubai, going to the cinema is an unaffordable luxury. A new community initiative is trying to change that with a series of cinema nights being held at labour camps across the city. Here are the details…
Dubai’s labour camps are running a #LabourOfLove campaign
Over the next two months, telecoms operator du and events company BigZ are setting up special movie nights at labour camps across Dubai, with over 40 film screenings scheduled. With a shortage of community outreach programs that offer free leisure activities to low-income workers, this #LabourOfLove campaign comes at a great time.
We headed down to a camp to see the initiative in action for ourselves. There’s complimentary popcorn and karak chai on offer to all guests, along with a giant projector playing Bollywood hits. With a thousand workers invited to enjoy the atmosphere, everyone was able to take part in a raffle draw to win a cash prize.

While it might be something as simple as a movie night, it’s good to see more initiatives like this popping up in Dubai.
