Dubai International Airport to Close Runway For 45 Days Next Year
The world’s busiest airport for international travellers has announced that it will upgrade its southern runway for a 45-day period next year, with some flights expected to be diverted to the city’s second airport. Here’s what you should know…
Dubai Airport to undergo major runway upgrade
Passengers flying through the emirate in 2019 will want to pay extra attention to their flight details. Dubai Airport will begin work on runway upgrades from April 16 to May 30 of 2019, with airlines significantly reducing their operations out of DXB. The city’s second airport, Dubai World Central, will be handling the influx of passengers during the 45-day upgrade period.
This isn’t the first time that Dubai International has scaled back operations. Back in 2014, a similar runway upgrade saw flights diverted to DWC, located about 60 kilometers away from DXB. Last year, Dubai International handled 88.2 million passengers.
