May 16 or 17 is likely to be the first day of Ramadan 2018 in the UAE, according to government officials. Here’s what you should know

Dates for Ramadan 2018 and Eid al-Fitr

The holy month of Ramadan is expected to begin on Wednesday, May 16 or Thursday, May 17. The announcement was made by Ibrahim Al Jarwan, deputy director general of the Sharjah Center for Astronomy & Space Sciences.

The fasting period for those observing the holy month will exceed 13 hours a day, increasing to 15 hours a day towards the end of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr is predicted to fall on Friday, June 15, according to astronomical calculations.
