When is Eid al Fitr 2018 in the UAE?

May 17, 2018

As the Holy Month of Ramadan begins this week, when can UAE residents expect Eid al Fitr 2018? Here are the details

What we know about Eid al Fitr 2018…

Eid al Fitr 2018 is expected to begin on Friday, June 15 or Saturday, June 16 — the official date is subject to the moon-sighting as the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle. The three-day festival celebrates the conclusion of Ramadan.

Will workers get a public holiday?

In the past, Eid al Fitr holidays in the UAE included two days for the private sector and three days for civil servants. Because Eid al Fitr is likely to fall on Friday or Saturday, we can’t be sure if workers will still get time off. Government officials will confirm this closer to the date.

Is there another Eid coming?

Yes. Eid Al Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice), also known as as the Greater Eid, is expected to begin on Wednesday, August 22. This could translate into a four-day holiday weekend for the private sector, though no official announcements have yet been made.
