Tucked away in the back streets of Bur Dubai, you’ll find Dar Al Khat Al Arabi – an Arabic calligraphy house that sits as the heart of Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood. It’s here that Abdul Fattah lives and breathes Arabic culture through his work. Abdul Fattah started practising calligraphy when he was just 10 years old and he has been working as a professional calligrapher for over 36 years! Check him out in the video above and let us know what you think.
Where can I find this calligraphy artist? Abdul works in Dar Al Khat Al Arabi in the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (Bastakiya).
How much does it cost for his calligraphy art? It really depends on the project. Abdul creates calligraphy that has been used for interior design, 3D art and a number of huge art projects. We asked Abdul to create ‘insydo’ as a calligraphy piece and we paid AED 30 for the word.
insydo verdict: “Watching Abdul at work is fascinating, and his Arabic calligraphy is a great insight into Dubai culture. For those interested in the arts and cultural scene, you really should visit. He also conducts classes which is really cool! Seeing Abdul’s calligraphy when working with color is awesome; the technique in each brush stroke will impress. This is the perfect souvenir or gift if you want to show something authentic from the city”.
