Cruising the Dubai creek on an Abra is one of the easiest and most underrated ways to see old Dubai! The traditional wooden boats have been transporting people for over 40 years; it’s a quick way to travel between Bur Dubai and Deira, or to show your visitors a little slice of Dubai culture without sitting in a traffic jam.
You can hop aboard an Abra at the Bur Dubai Abra Station or the Deira Abra Station for just AED 1; this allows you to travel between souks, local cafés and heritage sites in the old Dubai area. The Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, Gold & Spice Souk and Dubai Museum are just a few of the places that are in walking distance of the Abra stations.
Where can I find the Abras? Head straight to the Bur Dubai Abra Station or Deira Abra Station.
How much does it cost? Just AED 1! You pay when you board.
insydo verdict: “It’s such a simple and convenient way to explore the lesser known parts of Dubai… and obviously a great way to beat the traffic! Many Dubai residents still don’t know about it, but it’s worth taking an afternoon to enjoy the culture at this side of the city. If you’re into photography, an Abra trip will open up a number of opportunities to capture the essence of Old Dubai.”
