Every time we hear someone say ‘Dubai’s got no soul or culture’, we’re tempted to pack them into the car and drop them off in the heart of Alserkal Avenue. Located in Al Quoz, this is where the city’s artistic and cultural scene comes to life… and it’s back for a whole new season!
Awesome events at Alserkal Avenue
Here’s a quick breakdown of everything lined up for art lovers this month:
- Alserkal Lates: The public are invited to view new exhibitions at Alserkal Lates on September 27, when the contemporary art galleries in the Avenue extend their hours, staying open until 9pm. Guided tours of the exhibitions will depart from outside Nadi Al Quoz at 7pm and 8pm.
- Sima Performing Arts: September sees the official launch of Sima Performing Arts, a studio and performance venue that will offer a year-round programme of dance classes and performances. On September 27, they will hold free, open sessions where the public can join contemporary dance classes. On September 30, you can catch the grand performance at 7pm (it’s free but seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.)
- Community programme: Aidan Walker will discuss his book, The Ecology of the Soul, on September 25, while long-term UAE residents Dr. Frauke HeardBey and David Heard will hold a talk on September 28. Tom Fletcher will discuss Naked Diplomacy: Power and Statecraft in the Digital Age on September 30.
- Saturday Tours: Taking place on September 30, you’re invited to join a one-hour guided tour that will take you behind-the-scenes at Alserkal Avenue. You’ll meet the people behind some cool concepts and view their current exhibitions.
