Bikram to Vinyasa: The Best Type Of Yoga Class in Dubai For You
Thinking of starting out yoga, but not sure where to begin? There are so many different types of yoga classes in Dubai to try out, and we’re here to help you choose the right one! Whether you’re looking for a slow Hatha Yoga class to work on your posture and breathing or you’re down to try Bikram yoga in Dubai, here’s a guide to choosing the best type of yoga class in Dubai for you…
For beginners: Hatha Yoga
If you’re starting from scratch, or if you’ve only tried a few classes, Hatha Yoga is one of the best yoga classes in Dubai to get used to the practice. It’s a slow class, so don’t expect a proper workout. These classes mainly focus on getting in to the postures, regulating your breathing and working on alignment. One of the best yoga studios in Dubai to try Hatha Yoga is Yoga House. We love Karthik’s classes!
Where: Yoga House, The Greens
For deep stretching, strength and balance: Ashtanga Yoga
Hands down (pun intended) one of the best yoga classes in Dubai, and one of the best yoga teachers too! Nitai’s Ashtanga Yoga classes at Inspire Yoga are so intense, you’ll walk out drenched in sweat. The room is heated slightly, so you’ll be able to stretch even deeper than usual. From never-ending vinyasas to balancing postures and head stands, this is such a great workout – we were sore for days after!
Where: Inspire Yoga & Pilates, Al Thanya
For a fast-paced flow: Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa Yoga is the most popular type of yoga class, and you’ll find it in almost every yoga studio in Dubai. It’s a fast-paced flow that combines elements of stretching, balancing and breathing, as well as cardio. Throughout the class you’ll be repeating a specific ‘vinyasa’ flow, with different variations each time. Of course, every yoga teacher will have a slightly different approach to it, but one of our favourite Vinyasa Yoga classes is at Yoga La Vie!
Where: Yoga La Vie, Palm Jumeirah
insydo tip: If Vinyasa Yoga isn’t intense enough and you want something a little more challenging, try out Power Yoga instead!
For super intense stretching: Bikram Yoga in Dubai
If you think you can survive 90 minutes in a room heated to 40 degrees, Bikram Yoga is definitely worth a try. It’s a super intense class so don’t worry if you need to take breaks every couple of postures. There’s a fixed sequence of 26 postures, all of which are held for a few breaths, to allow you to stretch deeper. If you’re trying it out for the first time, we recommend heading to Dryp for Liliana’s class.
Where: Dryp, Dubai Marina
For recovery, stretching and hanging upside down: Swing Yoga
If you’re looking for a way to relax and stretch your muscles after a crazy workout, you need to try Swing Yoga. Using fabric that’s suspended from the ceiling, you’ll be swinging, hanging upside down, and letting your body loosen up. A great class for both beginner and advanced yogis. A great Swing Yoga class to try is at A-Tone Fitness.
Where: A-Tone Fitness, Business Bay
